The PGRH Community Calendar
Keep up to date with events and projects happening across the community. From coworking events to social coffee hour, book club to movie nights, there’s always something happening at the postgraduate research hub. For descriptions of the different events we run, click on something that interests you, or scroll down for an overview.
Events Overview
Book Club
It is what it says! Every two months, our book club meets to discuss a collectively nominated and chosen book. It’s a great setup for researchers who still want to get their recreational reading in!
Hard Mode
Hard Mode is our closed-doors, gamified accountability group where people with to-do lists that need to get done gather for some companionship and motivation to get your nose to the grindstone and get work done!
Journalling Sessions
The Jazzy Journalling sessions run at the end of each month, for our crafty members to get together and prep for the month through whatever medium suits them best, be that bullet journals, digital calendars or tapestry weaving.
Movie Nights
Our monthly movie nights give everyone a chance to sit back, grab some popcorn, and unplug for an hour or two with a classic film, inevitably accompanied by our community commentary.
Pomodoro Sessions
These are scheduled sessions where members gather for collective work using the Pomodoro Technique. Classically, the pomodoro technique consists of four 25-minute work sessions followed by a five minute break. Keep an eye out for our Wiggle Poms which intersperse focussed work with time set aside to get up and move a bit!
Scholastic Sharks
The Scholastic Sharks is the group of events holding our monthly Think Tank where members gather for an hour to discuss the theories and ideas that are swimming around their heads, as well as our PGRH Seminars which are run by and for our members on topics of interest to the community!
Social Hour
The monthly Coffee Hour is time set aside to meet up in a voice chat and have some off-duty conversation. It’s great to have reliable coworkers, but sometimes it’s just as good to get to know each other when we’re not researching! Caffeinated beverages optional.
